The International Development and Education Award (IDEA) provides support for early-career oncologists in low- and middle-income countries (LMCs). Similarly, the International Development and Education Award in Palliative Care (IDEA-PC) provides support for early-career oncologists and palliative care specialists in low- and middle-income countries (LMCs). The goal of the IDEA and IDEA-PC programs is to facilitate the sharing of knowledge between oncologists and palliative care specialists in LMCs and senior ASCO members.
The program enables recipients to:
Receive mentoring from a leading ASCO memberAttend the ASCO Annual MeetingParticipate in a post-Annual Meeting visit to mentors’ institutionDevelop long-term relationships to improve cancer care and palliative care in home countriesIn addition, IDEA and IDEA-PC recipients will also receive three years of complimentary ASCO membership, including a subscription to the Journal of Clinical Oncology. Once they return to their countries, IDEA and IDEA-PC recipients are expected to share the knowledge and training they received in the program with colleagues in home institutions. The hope is that recipients will serve as agents of change to improve cancer care in their countries.
