The ASCO Clinical Oncology & Research Experience (ASCO CORE) aims to introduce medical students to the field of oncology and provide them with critical exposure to cancer topics, research, and patient care through an immersive shadowing experience.
ASCO CORE Requirements: Participants selected for the experience are required to commit to the following activities.
- Complete asynchronous video modules on key oncology concepts.
- Travel to the 2026 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago, IL between May 29-30, 2026 to participate in a mandatory orientation session and special networking events.
- Complete a 4-week or 140-hour mentored rotation in oncology during pre-selected dates.
- Deliver a ~5-minute virtual presentation summarizing your ASCO CORE experience to other ASCO CORE participants in a Virtual Showcase.
ASCO CORE includes a $6,500 stipend to support participation in the program and attendance at the ASCO Annual Meeting.
Applicants must meet the following criteria to apply for ASCO CORE:
- Be enrolled in a DO or MD program at a U.S. medical school at the time of application and time of rotation.
- Have a good record of academic standing.
- Be an ASCO member. Students are able to obtain a FREE ASCO membership.
NOTE: Students are eligible to participate in ASCO CORE a maximum of two times, with a limit of one participation per track. Previous participants of the MSR and OSI programs are eligible to participate in ASCO CORE once and may choose their preferred track.
